My Story

Upcycle sewing, is in my blood.  My great grandmother raised her brood of children in a dirt floor cabin where clothes were handed down from one child to the next, and flour sacks were made into shirts for the boys and dresses for the girls.  My grandmother carried on the tradition, making clothing and quilts from found fabrics.  She worked in commercial sewing jobs for most of her life, and in her spare time made some of the most beautiful quilts I’ve ever seen from scraps of fabrics she had laying around.  My mom made dresses for my sister and me when we were little, and even made us some blouses from flour sacks for fun.  When I had children of my own, one of our treasured traditions was handmade Halloween costumes every year, made from things we would find around the house or at the local thrift stores.  Making something beautiful and useful out of something mundane or discarded is like magic for my soul.
